Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Luján issued the following statement on President Obama’s speech on health care reform to the American Medical Association.

“I am encouraged by President Obama’s commitment to health care reform that will make quality, affordable health care available to more Americans--saving families money and helping them get the care they need,” said Rep. Luján. “I’ve met with many New Mexicans throughout my district on health care—some who are struggling with the high costs of care, others who do not have access to quality care, and those who lack coverage altogether. It’s time to fix our broken system.”

“Despite the problems with our system, many are happy with the coverage they have. I believe that those who like their coverage should be able keep it. There should also be a robust public option that creates competition and reduces costs for families. Quality health care coverage for all should be more than a right -- it should be a promise that we make to each other, for a healthier and better future for us all.”
